SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Santa Fe chef is likely still celebrating a big win on the national stage in a high pressure cooking show.
Chef Fernando Ruiz competed on the Food Network’s cooking competition “Chopped” which aired Tuesday night.
Ruiz says he grew up selling drugs and went to jail when he was younger before finding his calling as a chef. He faced four other chefs during the competition.
On the show, chefs are given a basket of ingredients to make a meal. It’s three rounds — appetizer, entree and dessert.
Fernando walked away with a $10,000 prize.
