ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s enough to drive people on one city block crazy. Just before you reach the cul-de-sac at the end of Roca Fiel NW, there is a massive crack in the road that extends the entire width of the street.
“Every car that passes through here, you’d swear to God that the bumpers are gonna fall off,” said Ramon Jaramillo, who lives on the street.
Another neighbor says driving over the crack every day has caused significant damage to his car and that his axel is completely out of line and his tires are now slanted.
“I truly wish I could get some help, from the city, to maybe even fix my front end,” said Erminio Valdez.
Residents say they’re fed up with driving over it day in, and day out.
“It’s at least eight to 10 inches wide and probably three to four inches deep,” said Jaramillo.
Valdez says he called the city in September, and they told him they would take a look at it on October 28. He says they never came.
A spokesperson for the city’s Department of Municipal Development says their crews did receive the 311 request and that they are working on getting to it in the upcoming weeks. They say each case is handled in the order it is received.
Residents hope it helps.
“Re-do this and do it right instead of just Mickey Mouse and patching it up with little patches of tar,” said Jaramillo. “So the issue doesn’t happen again.”
“Putting them off and putting them off, and putting them off, it doesn’t work for me,” said Valdez.
A spokesperson for Municipal Development says they are looking at a long-term solution, possibly cutting the asphalt and laying a material inside the crack.
