Eddy County DWI program victim of state budget cuts

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – State budget cuts have hit a lot of programs hard, including Eddy County’s DWI program.

Those with the program estimate they could be close to $300,000 short this year.

“Right now we are looking to be as low as 50 percent of our original estimate,” said Cynthia Sharif, DWI Program Coordinator.

The program uses the money for DWI education classes, treatment, and counseling.

The DWI coordinator of Eddy County says she will have a better idea of just how short they’ll be after a meeting Wednesday.
