ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- They finished 17-10 last year. The Albuquerque High Bulldogs basketball team was eliminated by eventual 6A Champions Rio Rancho in the first round of the state basketball tournament last season.
This year’s head coach Ron Garcia returned stocked at the guard position.
He also has beef in the front court. Junior forward and future Lobo Marlon Cunningham will be an imposing figure at six foot seven and nearly 250 pounds. Cunningham couldn’t play varsity last season, sitting out due to the transfer rule.
He cannot wait for November 22. That’s when the Bulldogs open the season on the road at Miyamura in Gallup.
“I am probably going to be up tossing and turning all night, not being able to get comfortable because I’m too ready,” said Cunningham.
Coach Garcia believes his big man could have a breakout season.
“He’s a good 250 pounds,” said Garcia. “He can run. He can do some good things. I think Marlon is going to go as far as Marlon wants to take himself and that is what we are excited about.”
