Students combine Halloween fun with learning

LOS RANCHOS DE ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A lot of colorful characters were on parade Monday morning to celebrate Halloween and reading.

It’s an annual tradition at Los Ranchos Elementary where kids dress up as creatures and characters from the books they’re reading in school.

Teachers and parents say it’s not only fun, it’s also a way for kids to become more engaged in what they’re learning.

“Halloween is great holiday, but it’s even better when we can incorporate some learning into it,” said Principal Craig Robinson. “I think it’s important because it really lets the students internalize the characters that they’re reading about.”

More and more teachers are incorporating learning into the holiday saying it’s better when kids have fun and learn at the same time. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
