1 suspect on the loose following police activity near La Mesa Elementary

lock down scene

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – La Mesa Elementary School was placed on lock-down due to police activity in the area.

Police say officers on scene were responding to a violent carjacking. Albuquerque police say officers were searching for the offenders and set up a perimeter in the area of Central and Pennsylvania. APD is asking anyone who notices suspicious activity to call 911.

The carjacking originated in the East Mountains, according to APD. The car crashed near the school and the driver was taken into custody. However, a woman involved in the incident picked up a gun from the scene and fled; police thought she was hiding on a roof in the neighborhood.

The perimeter was later broken down Monday night and the woman was not found.
