Volunteers gather to build new South Valley playground

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– A group of volunteers were hard at work Saturday putting up a place to play.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico and Catholic Charities teamed up to build a playground at the children’s learning center near Bridge and Atrisco.

Organizers say facilities like this one are especially important in neighborhoods like the south valley where lots of kids come from busy, working families.

They say a safe play environment is not only fun for kids, but also encourages healthy lifestyles and development.

The site will also feature gardening beds for kids to grow flowers and vegetables.
