ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – With Halloween on a Monday this year, many festivities are taking place this weekend. At the last minute, many local shoppers are popping in to pop-up store Spirit to grab costumes before it’s too late.
As All Hallow’s Eve creeps closer, the race is on for the perfect outfit for trick-or-treating and Halloween get togethers.
Many people are turning to Halloween mega store Spirit for their look.
“I’m a procrastinator,” Ashley Plumber said. “So this is easy to come to because they’re still open.”
The pop-up location at San Mateo and I-40 was packed on Friday and again Saturday. Store manager Jesse Orion says that’s because people are scrambling to dress up for parties and such on Saturday night.
“We got Halloween on Monday so the weekends definitely going to be super busy,” Orion said.
As for which costumes are flying off the shelves this year, Orion says costumes for a video game called “Five Nights at Freddy’s” are quite popular but the number 1 spot goes to…
“Clowns are definitely the most popular thing.”
Which is likely due to the “creepy clown” craze that’s swept the nation of the past several months.
Online trending reports show that other top contenders include Suicide Squad, Star Wars, Pokemon and politician-themed costumes, namely Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
In fact, since 1996, Spirit’s top sales of presidential nominee masks have been in-line with the winner. So far, Spirit reports, Trump costumes and masks are selling more than Clinton. Although, most people polled by Spirit say they’re dressing up as Trump to be funny, whereas those dressing up at Clinton say they’re doing it because they like her.
So whether you want to be Rey, Harley Quinn or the next president of the United States, it’s not too late to find your perfect look.
