ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Missing for over three weeks, last seen in the Pecos Wilderness; the family of David Chavez say they are fearing the worst. And state police say they aren’t ruling out foul play.
Family says the 28-year-old father of two went missing after going up to the Pecos Wilderness with some friends.
They now say those friends said Chavez grew ill and decided to stay in the mountains while they left. They have conducted their own searches and found several of his items including his beanie, Leatherman and a blanket where they believe he was sleeping.
They say not hearing from Chavez for this long, is not like him, and they’re trying to remain positive as state police continue to search for him.
“He has two small kids, he’s a son, he’s a brother, he’s an uncle, and we want to bring him home,” said Liz Espinoza, his sister.
State police say they are following up on all leads regarding his disappearance and any possibility of foul play.
If you have any information regarding Chavez, you are asked to contact state police.
