ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Friday the governor handed the Bernalillo County Sheriff the keys to a brand new mobile DWI unit.
The new van is high-tech and features more ways to get drunk drivers off the streets, including two breath-test stations, its own booking station and a drunk tank that can hold ten DWI suspects.
Ultimately eliminating the need for deputies to travel back and forth to the station each time a suspect is arrested.
“As long as we continue to hopefully try to eradicate DWI however we can this is going to be a very useful tool for that,” said Sheriff Manuel Gonzales.
Bernalillo County has the highest rate of alcohol-related traffic deaths in the state.
