Police: Vehicle involved in 4-year-old’s abduction found, subjects detained

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a tense situation Friday morning after police say a woman kidnapped a 4-year-old girl by stealing a car with the girl in the back.

The girl was later found in Bernalillo and police may have their suspect.

The girl’s parents told police they decided to give a stranger a ride around 6:30 a.m. They say they had to stop at a business and open a gate, but when they got out of the car the woman took off with the girl. However, police say they aren’t sure about that story yet.

Either way, the suspect dropped the girl, Isabella, off at the KOA Campground in Bernalillo a little more than an hour later. The girl was still in her car seat and was unharmed.

“We do believe that the individual who abducted the child knew the child was in the car,” said Officer Simon Drobik.

Police say the vehicle was later located in Bernalillo and that several people have been detained.

Albuquerque police also handcuffed the girl’s dad Friday morning and took him in for questioning. They have not said what that was about.
