ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – It wasn’t just criminal suspects Artesia Police were chasing this week.
Three wild javelinas led officers on a wild chase through a neighborhood near 11th and Grand on Monday. Officers say they were surprised to find the trio in town.
“Theories abounded but we were never able to pin down anything like that. We just had three pigs in the middle of town and dealt with it the best we could,” said an Artesia Police spokesman.
It wasn’t easy, but the three wild pigs were eventually captured after about 30 minutes.
Southeastern New Mexico has seen an influx of wild hogs over the last few years.
