Teens responsible for police chase have lengthy criminal histories

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A group of young gang members, involved in a chase and crash that injured law enforcement, have had run-ins with the law before.

According to a criminal complaint, the five teens range in age from 13 to 19.

Investigators say the group lured another man to a home Friday. They then held him at gun point and took his car.

While driving around town, 19-year-old Xavier Montoya, 17-year-olds Conrad Trujillo and Mark Rios, 16-year-old Janay Marin and 13-year-old Samuel Mirabal were spotted by deputies.

Marin was driving and took off, leading them on a chase before crashing into an off-duty Albuquerque Police Department officer.

The officer was injured with broken bones and a deputy was also injured during the chase.

Montoya was released from jail on a $25,000 bond.

The others appeared in juvenile court Tuesday. They all face armed robbery, kidnapping and a slew of other charges.

Some of their parents spoke saying they’ve tried to control their children but the kids just won’t listen.

The youngest, Samuel Mirabal, has three warrants against him and nine referrals to the juvenile center. He’s also cut off his GPS tracker twice and stolen his mother’s car.
