Students learn about the importance of water in everyday life

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Some 4th graders explored one of the most basic and essential resources today–water.

It was all part of the Rio Rancho Children’s Water Festival at the Santa Ana Star Center. The kids learned about the relationships between water and human activities. Through hands-on demonstrations the kids learned how water moves through the environment and the importance of conserving it.

“They can think about personal responsibility and things they can do to protect the surface of the watershed and the receiving water,” said Steve Glass, Cuidad Water Conservation District.

Students from elementary schools in Rio Rancho and Bernalillo took part in Monday’s event. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
