TUCUMCARI, N.M. (AP) – Authorities say there’s been a shooting in which a man who allegedly fired at pursuing officers was wounded following a chase that started in western Texas and ended about 70 miles away in eastern New Mexico.

According to authorities, Texas troopers and Amarillo police pursued the SUV on Interstate 40 from Amarillo to just inside New Mexico.

New Mexico state police say at least one Texas trooper fired shots and that a 33-year-old suspect is being treated for gunshot wounds. Three other people were taken into custody.

Amarillo police said the chase began Monday morning when a driver refused to pull over during a traffic stop and that the driver fired at officers several times during the incident.

No officers were injured.
