Hundreds participate in 5k run to support first responders

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A run held on Sunday celebrated the folks who lay it on the line for their communities every day.

A 5-k starting in Los Ranchos brought together first responders including police officers, firefighters, EMS, dispatchers and the citizens who support them.

Those who participated say it wasn’t just about first responders, but their families deserve a thank-you as well.

Organizers say part of their inspiration to start this race was BCSO Deputy Robin Hopkins who was shot and badly injured back in October of 2013 and is still fighting to recover.

All proceeds from the event benefit the 10-82 Fund which helps the families of fallen first responders. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
