BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – She’s smart, she has drive and is determined to go to college, but the big thing is — she doesn’t have is the money to do it. So, she’s getting creative.
Joy Havens is a senior at Belen High School and is determined to get a college degree in animal science. She’s been helping animals since she was a little girl.
While her dad said he would max out the credit cards if he had to, to give her a college education, Havens doesn’t want to burden them. She’s hoping she’s found a more creative solution.
“I have applied for many, many scholarships and I have done essays, drawings, I research everything, but nothing worked so far and didn’t want to sit and do nothing, so I started a GoFundMe page to be progressive,” said Havens.
Havens wants to go to New Mexico State University. She has a 4.0 grade point average.
