Alamogordo police hope to start K9 unit in fallen officer’s honor

ALAMOGOROD N.M. (KRQE)- Before he was murdered by a wanted man, Alamogordo Police Officer Clint Corvinus had a dream to bring a K9 unit to his department.

Now a contest in his honor could help make that happen.

It’s still doesn’t feel real for many officers in the Alamogordo Police Department that their friends is gone.

“I still think of it as a dream and it didn’t really happen I expect him to call me or walk into a room and say just kidding,” said Kyle Graham, friend of Corvinus.

The department is doing everything they can to make one of Officer Corvinus’ dreams come true.

“Clint’s big goal was to have a canine at the Alamogordo Police Department, he had been working on it for about two years,” said Graham.

Through a grant that would provide APD with $5,000 to start their own canine unit but they need the most votes to make it happen.

“Log onto the website and they can vote daily to help us make Clint’s dream come true to get this canine program kicked off,” said Deputy Chief Roger Schoolcraft.

Each year Aftermath, a bio hazard removal company, offers the money to departments across the nation in an online contest.

Alamogordo police are in the top 15 right now. They say that winning the grant would be great for the department but it is still bittersweet.

“This would mean that Clint’s dream finally came true it’s just sad that he is not here to witness it in person,” said Graham. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
