ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)– Craig Neal and his Lobo Men’s Basketball Team will do something different this week. The Lobos are inviting UNM students to an open practice Thursday.

“We got to get our students back going because they are a big part of our university not only the success of our basketball program but, the way they cheer and make noise, said Lobos Coach Craig Neal. “It’s a big thing for us. Just trying to get a little more interest going and let them rally around our guys.”

Student involvement seems to have dipped a bit over the last two seasons with more entertainment options. Students have more ways to see the game without being there.

“Our student section has been great for 10 years,” said Neal. “We just got to get them back involved. There is so much stuff going on. It’s on TV. You can stream it.”

The open practice will have a 5 p.m. start time at WisePies Arena AKA The Pit Thursday. Lobo coaches will also be available to meet students attending the practice. The Lobos open the season with an exhibition game against Western New Mexico November 2.
