Are Christmas decorations popping up too early in Albuquerque?

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A staple at ABQ Uptown has already made its appearance among the wide array of shopping options. The shopping center’s massive Christmas tree has moved locations from previous years, but what has people talking, is its early arrival.

“I think it’s kind of crazy to think about it before we’ve even hit Halloween,” said Matt Mashburn.

Other shoppers think it’s never too early for the holidays, “It’s awesome, I really like it,” said Chino Jimenez.

But there are some people questioning the timing.

“It shouldn’t happen before Halloween at the very least,” said one shopper.

Both customers and staff at Uptown said they’ve seen the changes over the years, so maybe this is the new normal.

“It seems to get earlier and earlier every single year,” said Mashburn. And despite the decorations, some people said they aren’t quite ready to start their holiday shopping.

“Not yet, I think it’s ridiculous,” said Jimenez.

But for others, they just haven’t yet made the time.

“I procrastinate a little bit so some people getting the jump on it, I can understand,” said Mashburn.

Not all the holiday decorations at Uptown have made their way to their known locations, and the Christmas tree is not yet fully adorned with all its decorations. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
