How to keep your pet safe on Halloween

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) – Many people across the Wabash Valley are getting into the Halloween spirit!

That’s why one local veterinarian wants to make sure your pets stay safe in those celebrations.

Beth Brown, a doctor of veterinarian medicine stopped by News 10 on Friday.

She says a common problem this time of year is chocolate.

Brown says dogs should stay away from all chocolate, but Baker’s Chocolate is the worst.

If your dog ingests it, the size of the dog and how much chocolate is consumed could be factors in how dangerous the situation is.

“If you’re unsure call a veterinarian and we can help guide you through what you need to do to keep your pets safe,” Brown told us.

Brown also suggests keeping your pets away from doors during trick or treating hours.

That’s so they’re not scared of the costumes on the other side.

Additionally, if you decide to dress your pet up, make sure they have a good line of vision and are comfortable. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
