ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. – The Elephant Butte Dam officially turns 100 years old Sunday and there is plenty planned for the celebration.
Everything from tours of the towering structure, to fireworks and a pie-eating contest.
Some of the festivities began on Friday, but they run through this week.
The dam created the state’s largest lake and has been a playground for boaters, anglers and hikers for decades.
There will be more tours of the inside and top of the dam and a special plaque will be unveiled on Wednesday.
