Hundreds of nails litter North Valley street

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  Some North Valley residents are spitting nails because somehow hundreds of nails wound up all over the roads of their neighborhood near 12th street and Candelaria.

Residents spent much of Friday walking along the street and picking up nails one by one.

Some people didn’t even realize it and drove right over them, causing flat tires.

Including one lady who had collected a whole bag of nails from the street.

“I got two nails in my car and I had to go to Discount Tires and they had to fix my tires early this morning,” said Diana Torres.

Although no one knows where the nails came from, some residents have their theories.

“I don’t know if someone’s dropping them just so we can get them in our tires. We’ve got a ditch in the back and you see people walking the ditch all the time,” said one resident.

Other people thought maybe the garbage truck dropped the nails.

An Albuquerque police officer was on scene but there is no word if they are investigating who left the nails behind. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
