Robbery suspect leads police on chase, car catches fire after crash

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque police are investigating a crash involving a man they were chasing after a robbery.

Police say it all stated Thursday evening when the suspect tried to rob the Valero gas station at Eubank and Central.

After failing, police say he rammed it with his car then fled. They spotted him and tried to stop him. As police were telling him to get out of the car he took off again hitting a brick fence and still kept driving.

Police spotted the suspect speeding again at the intersection of Louisiana and Bell. He blew past the intersection hitting another car and crashing into a light pole.

Police say that’s when the car started on fire and the suspect fled.

“He was trying to tell him to stop and trying to make sure everyone was okay,” said Dominique Larribas, witness. “He took off that way and ran behind that building and another cop that got there got out of his car and took off after him.”

The suspect was arrested.
