ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Onate Knights season of success has taken a hit due to an ineligible player. The Las Cruces Sun reported Tuesday that the New Mexico Activities Association started an investigation into the matter last week and informed the school of its findings Monday.
Onate has forfeited the five games because of the ineligible player who has not been identified. Head Coach Brent Jacquess told the Sun that the player in question did everything asked of him.
Four of the games forfeited came against Atrisco Heritage, Sandia, Gadsden and Mayfield. The forfeited games leaves Onate with a 1-6 overall record and 1-2 in district 3 6A. The school is expected to appeal the NMAA’s decision.
