Lobos picked to finish 3rd, Brown named preseason P.O.Y

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Craig Neal and his Lobos were picked to finish third in the Mountain West Men’s Basketball preseason poll released on Wednesday. The Lobos got three first place votes.

“Last year we were picked sixth and ended up fourth,” said Lobos head coach Craig Neal. “A year before that we were picked 5th and won it so it is what it is.”

Lobos guard Elijah Brown was named Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year. Brown led the Lobos in scoring last season averaging over 21 points per game. Brown and Lobos forward Tim Williams are also All Mountain West selections. Williams averaged over 16 points and 7.4 rebounds for the Lobos last season.

It’s the first time the Lobos have had two All Mountain West first team performers return. According the the poll the Lobos and the other teams will have their hands full with the San Diego State Aztecs. The Aztecs picked up 23 first place votes to repeat as regular season champs.
