Police: 12 hour standoff with man on roof ends with arrest

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Central was shut down between Pennsylvania and Rhode Island due to police activity.

The closure was because of a man that is standing on top of a building, refusing to come down and vandalizing the property. At approximately 4:30 in the afternoon, negotiators made attempts to communicate with the man, load noises were also heard coming form the building.

Police say they were at the scene for nearly 12 hours.

Albuquerque police say the man was trying to hit vehicles on Central by throwing items out onto the street.

Debris was seen lying on the ground in the middle of Central Avenue, SWAT was on scene with large armored vehicles. At this time, police are trying to communicate with the man. They say he has already caused extensive damage.

Police say this man has had run-ins with the law before, and they call him Superman, because of a tattoo on his chest.
