ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The USA Track and Field Indoor Championships are coming back to Albuquerque.

The nationally televised event has been held elsewhere for the past two years but Tuesday the city announced it will return to the Metro this spring.

They expect it to bring hundreds of athletes as well as $400,000 to the economy.

“We get world class athletes, we get to watch, our kids are inspired, they’re inspired by our city, our hotel rooms, our restaurants have customers and these athletes go around the world and share the ABQ story. It’s a great combination,” said Mayor Richard J. Berry.

The city is in talks about keeping the event in Albuquerque the following year as well. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
