Man accused of driving drunk, killing pedestrian

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A pedestrian was hit and killed Monday night and police believe the driver responsible was drunk.

It happened just before 10 p.m. near Lomas and San Pedro. The victim, Juliosimon Martinez, was found with severe trauma in a parking lot.

Police determined it was likely he had been hit and killed by a car but there were no witnesses. But it wasn’t long before they got a call from the friends of Michael Penick.

The friends told police Penick called them saying he thought he hit someone. Police caught up with him and say he smelled of alcohol.

They say there was also evidence of the crash on his car. Penick is charged with vehicular homicide. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
