Albuquerque police hold 'Coffee with a Cop' event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Community members spent their morning with Albuquerque police chatting over a cup of coffee. It was all part of “National Coffee with a Cop Day.”

The Albuquerque Police Department hosted the event to help raise donations for their annual “Cops for Kids” event, where they take underprivileged children and spend an afternoon with them before the holidays.

“Our accomplishment today is to set up a child with an officer and change that child’s life,” said Phyllis Hernandez with Cops for Kids. “Maybe they’ll grow up and become an officer.”

Along with their coffee, the public also enjoyed donuts and Frito pie. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
