ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who police say stole two expensive show dogs has been arrested.

The Albuquerque Police Department says 51-year-old Lawrence Chavez was captured on surveillance video at a motel on Central and Tramway over the summer, stealing the prized Boston Terriers from an SUV.

The dog’s owner was in town for a dog show and had just loaded them up for the trip home when the dogs, Sara and Mona, were taken.

“Mona” was returned after a family came forward saying they bought the dog from Chavez. “Sara” was also eventually recovered.

Chavez is now facing charges including larceny and auto burglary. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
