BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – Thieves keep hitting one Rail Runner station over and over, and police have had enough.
Belen police say they’ve seen an unusually high number of car thefts and break-ins in the parking lot of their train station.
KRQE News 13 recently reported on one woman, who had two cars stolen from the lot in less than two months. Other cars have been broken into or had the wheels removed.
“For a town this size, it’s pretty substantial, it’s a pretty serious issue,” said Belen Police Department Chief Scott Conner.
The department says it’s now partnering with the state to crack down, running saturation patrols and placing bait cars around the area.
The chief says the most popular vehicle being targeted are white ford pickups.
