Chris’ Thursday Afternoon Forecast

The wind will pick up later on this evening as a cold front roll into eastern New Mexico.   A cold front is going to move into the east later on tonight.   Eventually this front will crank up the wind across central New Mexico overnight.  If you are near the canyon that is where the wind will be the strongest!   So these winds will have to be watched closely for Balloon Fiesta on Friday morning to see if they will cooperate for launch.  Spot showers are possible in eastern New Mexico on Friday, but the bigger weather story will be the wind and much cooler temperatures.   Highs in parts of eastern New Mexico could be 20° cooler on Friday compared to today.   Another storm system will move in from the southwest over the weekend.   This will bring the chance for scattered showers across central and western New Mexico over the weekend. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
