Authorities identify Arizona woman found dead in New Mexico

TAOS, N.M. (AP) – Authorities in northern New Mexico say a body found on a roadway last month has been identified.

Taos County Sheriff’s officials say 33-year-old Carmen Velasquez was from San Luis, Arizona and they still are investigating her death as a homicide.

Her body was found Sept. 18 by a passer-by on County Road 110.

Authorities say a vehicle believed to belong to Velasquez was located about two miles away from the body.

Sheriff’s officials say Velasquez has no known family or ties to the Taos area and investigators are working on the case with New Mexico State Police. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
