Video: Thieves back truck into convenience store, steal ATM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Surveillance video shows the two-minute long destruction of a Northeast Heights convenience store by burglars in order to steal an ATM.

It happened last month at the Chevron on Montgomery and Eubank.

Workers arrived in the morning to find the front of the store completely bulldozed after a pickup truck crashed through it, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.

Surveillance video from the Chevron shows the truck – a white Ford, possibly Chevy, with a Tommy lift gate and a grey paint on the passenger side door – back into the store’s front doors three times.

Then, two burglars dressed in black from head to toe to include masks and gloves, get out and put an ATM inside the store in the bed of the truck.

“It’s one o’clock in the morning, there’s still people on Montgomery actually driving up and down,” Ofc. Simon Drobik said. “These guys are very brazen.”

Police later recovered the ATM near a drainage ditch on Candelaria; it had been ripped apart and no bills were left inside. It’s unknown exactly how much cash was taken.

“APD is actively looking for these individuals, looking for leads,” Drobik said. “If anybody knows of bragging about this crime… if anybody know who the truck belongs to [call 242-COPS].” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
