John’s Monday Afternoon Forecast

Improving conditions into midweek...

The cold front will continue to work across New Mexico today. Most of the showers have now pushed out of the state, but we’ll hang on to some lingering showers across the northern high terrain through the afternoon. Winds will be up through the rest of today and tonight as skies continue to clear.

Cooler air will continue to push south and east across New Mexico this evening and tonight. If you’re heading out to Balloon Fiesta Tuesday morning, expect a cooler start with morning lows in the mid 40s. We’ll also have to watch the wind. Though surface winds will lighten enough, the balloon launch will depend on the upper level winds.

The weather continues to improve for Wednesday and Thursday. But another storm system will drop into the state Friday and the coming weekend. This could put a damper on the close of Balloon Fiesta. There are still several days between now and then and a lot can change, so I wouldn’t change any weekend plans just yet. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
