ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE)- Cardio may have been Cody East’s demise in his second UFC bout against Curtis Blaydes in the heavyweight division.
East and Blaydes were on the prelim card for the UFC Fight Night 96 event.
It was the ground game as well as the ground and pound that caught East by surprise. He did not answer well to Blaydes ability to take him down and keep him down. In the second round, Blaydes would inflict some devastating elbows to Cody in the head.
It may have been a little bit too far back on East’s head, but the referee would call the bout giving Blaydes the TKO victory.
This marks Cody’s second loss in his second UFC fight. It’s a tough bout for East to lose, but he does still hold a 13-3 professional MMA record.
