Shots fired at Bernalillo County Deputies in overnight encounter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputies were fired upon during an encounter early Saturday morning.

Deputies say that they encountered a suspicious person, later identified as 38-year-old Eric Pacheco, at about 1:00 a.m. north of 2nd and Alameda near a ditch bank. When they approached Pacheco, he brandished a handgun and fired multiple shots at deputies. Pacheco then fled the scene on foot and entered a nearby structure.

BCSO called in SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams and after several hours took Pacheco into custody peacefully.

No deputies were hurt.

Pacheco is currently being charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
