Balloon Fiesta kicks off with Albuquerque Aloft event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The 45th Annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta unofficially kicked off Friday morning with Albuquerque Aloft.

Pilots go to Albuquerque Public Schools campus’ across the city to show kids first hand how hot air balloons work.

Students, teachers and parents were welcomed to an outdoor classroom for a little balloon schooling. Balloon Fiesta pilots turn out for a rundown of the basics: how balloons work, how they fly and how they get them in the air.

Pilots could simply inflate their balloons, or they had the option to launch, weather permitting.

Saturday’s mass ascension for Balloon Fiesta kicks off at 7 a.m.
