Celebration for those who helped in Dog Head Fire

TIJERAS, N.M. (KRQE) – A celebration was held Sunday for folks who volunteered to support their community in the wake of the devastating Dog Head Fire.

The massive blaze back in June burned through nearly 18,000 acres and a dozen homes in the East Mountains.

The focus of Sunday’s annual East Mountain Celebration was to say thank you to community members who stepped up to help even if it wasn’t their job.

“It was an honor to be able to recognize a few folks that are just small businesses, the Manzano cheerleaders, people like that the just kicked in because it needed doing,” said Bernalillo County Commissioner Wayne Johnson.
