ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It’s a main source of fuel that can create an environment to promote muscle growth and recovery, and you’d probably never guess it was carbs.
Carbohydrates are one of the main macronutrients. They are usually classified into two groups: simple and complex. Your body breaks down the molecule into glucose, and then the muscles use the carbs for energy and future use.
Fitness Expert, Kristin Rowe, joined KRQE’s This Morning team to discuss carbohydrates and their benefits. Watch above.
Eating carbs pre and post workout helps to spike insulin and help to restore glycogen. This allows for high energy, lean muscles and reaching the feeling of full, yet healthy.
Some recommended complex carbs are oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole grain pastas and breads, and quinoa.
