TAOS, N.M. (KRQE) – Hospital officials say the lock down at Holy Cross Hospital in Taos has been lifted after a violent attack on a mother and a newborn Thursday.

Taos police say Rafael Orozco beat up his wife in the maternity ward Thursday, then hit the newborn. They say he left after threatening hospital security with a gun.

Taos Police Sgt. Trujillo says no weapons were seen, but the hospital was on lock down until the woman is released.

He says the hospital is functioning as normal, but Taos police are staying in touch with hospital staff and security.

Rafael Orozco has an outstanding warrant in another case, according to the Taos Police Department.

Authorities are still searching for Orozco.
