New Mexico poet receives medal at the White House

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico Author and Poet Rudolfo Anaya received the National Humanities Medal at the White House on Thursday.

Famous for works like “Bless Me Ultima” and “The Legend of la Llorona,” Anaya is known for exploring New Mexico’s Hispanic culture.

At Thursday morning’s ceremony, President Obama presented him with the medal. Watch video above.

Local leaders applauded the selection of Anaya, saying his contributions to local and Chicano literature are historic.
