Local band gains national attention with their latest music video

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A local band is gaining national attention with their latest music video shot in Albuquerque with some very gritty subject matter.

On first look you’d think it’s just another video targeting police, but it’s not. KRQE News 13 spoke to the band about the video that has people talking.

JoeSpeaks is an Albuquerque artist with a message.

“Sense something that’s wrong, change it,” said joeSpeaks, vocalist and producer of Sense and Change.

His band, Sense and Change, is serious about that message.

“Be thought provoking, help people think for themselves, help people decipher what’s wrong and what’s right,” said Vocalist Atom Ortiz.

Their newest music video, “Searching for a Dream,” sheds light on the “other side” of the story of the police brutality debate. The side that is not as commonly told on social media.

“We see a lot of people don’t like being racially profiled, but turn the table and police don’t like the same thing,” said joeSpeaks.

“The misunderstanding of one cop did something, all cops are bad,” said Ortiz.

Shot around Albuquerque, the video depicts a gang cruising around looking to take out a cop.

The big twist in the story line, when the gunman decides to put down his assault rifle, and put up with the ridicule from his friends. The officer goes home that night never knowing how close he was to death. In just a couple weeks, the video has more than 100,000 views on Facebook.

“That was insane, we didn’t expect that,” said Zack Herrera, keys player.

“Hopefully these videos and songs spread more than that and get global attention,” said joeSpeaks.
