Albuquerque zoo celebrates ‘World Rhino Day’

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A celebration took place at the zoo Thursday to raise awareness about endangered rhinos.

BioPark visitors got to check out discovery stations and hear talks from zookeepers about rhinos. As well as the threats facing the big beasts in the wild.

Zookeepers say they hope events like these inspire the public to get involved in conservation efforts.

“There’s only so much that zoos can do, and the zoos are here as just a stepping point to say, we would like to see animals out there in their natural environment,” said Zookeeper Lisa Moore.

The Zookeepers’ Association is also hosting a fundraising event, “Bowling for Rhinos” at Silva Lanes on October 2.
