Austin Apodoca could return sooner rather than later

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Lobos starting quarterback Austin Apodoca could possibly return under center in two weeks, not the four to six weeks first estimated for his shoulder injury.

An MRI revealed that Apodoca’s injury was more like a bone bruise instead of a fracture.

“For me it’s going to be a pain threshold thing and I am going to work in the training room with our trainers,” said Apodoca. “We have great trainers and great doctors. I am going to try and get back and get my range of motion as fast as I can and get back out there.”

Apodoca suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of a loss at Rutgers last week. If the injury was not to his throwing shoulder, Apodoca would probably return even sooner.

“That’s probably the biggest thing to,” said Apodoca. “They were saying if it was any other position it’s probably a lot shorter time period but, since it’s quarterback, since it’s your throwing shoulder, it’s probably going to take a lot more time to get right because it deals with mechanics and all of that.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
