ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque is in the midst of one of the deadliest years on record.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, the city saw 46 murders in 2015. As of September 2016, Albuquerque has already hit that number.
City Councilor Pat Davis says staffing shortages within the Albuquerque Police Department could be partly to blame. Meanwhile, APD says having their homicide detectives focus on more civilian murders could help. That’s because another task force took over investigating officer involved shootings last year.
The department says it’s also working to curb property crime, which rose last year as well.
