Fight between inmates breaks out at MDC

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A corrections officer and three inmates are recovering after a large fight broke out at the Metropolitan Detention Center Monday night.

MDC says there was a fight between a group of inmates Monday around 8 p.m.

The exact reason for the fight has not been released, but according to a public information officer with MDC, it’s alleged to be racially motivated.

Deputies on scene have so far sent 10 inmates to the disciplinary segregation unit.

One corrections officer was sent to the hospital after injuring his back while attempting to break up the fight.
