Crash on I-25 leaves one dead and several others injured

BERNALILLO, N.M. (KRQE)– A crash on the interstate left one person dead and others injured.

It happened on I-25 on the Santo Domingo Pueblo just before 3 Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say traffic was slowing because of construction.

They say that’s when 47-year-old Frank Lopez rammed into a truck going about 70 miles an hour. The truck was carrying eight people, four of them children. Lopez died at the scene.

The other eight were taken to the hospital.

One was flown by helicopter for a back injury but is expected to survive.

The children in the truck suffered minor injuries.

Two other cars were involved in the crash but no other injuries were reported. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
