ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The countdown is on to the New Mexico State Fair.
Rex Thompson with Rex’s Hamburgers spent Wednesday evening cooking burgers for all the fair workers who are getting everything ready.
“A little love goes a long way,” Thompson said.
“I started when I was 12 over across at the midway over there,” he said. This is his 46th year at the fair.
Richard Reithoffer, general manager of Reithoffer Shows, said, “It’s more time to transport it than it is to set it all up.” He said his last event was the New Jersey State Fair last month.
“We brought some new attractions here for the children and for the adults both to wow them here on the midway,” he said.
Dan Mourning, general manager of the New Mexico State Fair, said, another new feature this year is a partnership with Uber.
“If you take Uber and use the NM State Fair code gets you a discount to ride that Uber if you’re a first-time downloader, and then you also get a fast track right into the fair.”
The gates open Thursday at 10 a.m. with a special $2 admission and $12 ride wristbands.
Organizers expect an estimated half a million people to attend the New Mexico State Fair. The fair ends September 18.
